The journey started more than fifty years ago…
It was 1966. La Cantina was born in Borgonovo, at the centre of Val Tidone and the heart of the Colli Piacentini D.O.C. region. It is still there today.
A lot of ground has been covered since then and there is still some way to go. However, no-one intends calling it a day any time soon. The level of enthusiasm is unchanged.
It seems like only yesterday when sixteen agriculturalists decided to establish a co-operative they called “Cantina Valtidone“. They also coined a motto: “Classici attuali” (current classics), one that has always been something to strive towards. The association has remained true to its origins, even though, over the years, it has grown into a true company from its homespun roots.
The membership has also grown in number.
Today there are around 220 who, each year, provide approximately 9 tonnes of grapes (of which over 80% is DOC standard).
The vines are checked constantly by experts who study and provide advice on the most advanced cultivation techniques. The level of attention continues even after the harvest with the wine-making and ageing stages.
The grapes hail from hilly areas, resulting in a lower quantity but higher quality as the Cantina is aware that winning market share depends on producing good wines.
The Cantina Valtidone includes the whole range of renowned wines form the Piacenza area, with space for Gutturnio, Barbera, Bonarda, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Nero and Ortrugo.
